Make Self Care a priority in 2020
2020 is upon us. New Year, New Me right?
Most of us like to think of a new year as a clean slate to start over, set new goals and set yourself up to be the best you can be in the coming year. Whether that’s striving for financial freedom, finding a new career, taking care of your health and fitness or just finding time to do something you love, January is all about setting goals. While we all make different goals to better our individual selves, one very important goal I believe we can all make this year is a goal to take care of ourselves.
An achievable goal
January can tend to be a slow month, we’re all slowly making our way back to work after the Christmas break and most of us find it hard to get back into our general routine of life. Though our goals are fresh in our minds and the motivation to achieve them is high, as the months go on we tend to find ourselves slipping and getting caught up in the hustle and bustle of our busy lives. Having something as achievable as self care on your list will benefit both your mental and physical health.
Simple self care
Whether it’s walking your dog every morning while listening to a podcast, getting a facial or massage once a month, joining a new class at the gym, getting your nails done or even just something as simple as running a hot bath or reading a book half an hour before bed every night, the list could go on and on. Self care can be whatever you love, whatever de-stresses you and whatever gives you a minute away from your busy life. That’s the best part! Now tell me, how can you not achieve this goal when it’s as simple as that?
But I’m time poor; I don’t have time for myself!
Let’s face it, we’re all time poor but the reality is we all have the same amount of hours in a day and it’s up to us, what we do with those hours. The best way to achieve and ensure we are getting our “me time” is to plan. For example: Book in your massage once a month for the next 6 months, maybe it’s the same day and time every month so you can block that off in your dairy and look forward to It knowing that you’ve worked hard to deserve it. Or set your alarm an hour earlier a few days a week, to ensure you can start your day with yogo, an early morning walk or even a gym session. There are so many ways to achieve what you want when you want.
