Why looking after your feet should be JUST AS IMPORTANT as your skin care routine
In the minds of most females in Australia removing our makeup every night, cleansing and moisturising our skin is a night time ritual most of us can’t live without. It has become second nature to us and for good reason. I mean who wants to go to bed with a face full of dirt from the previous day?

Skin care vs Foot care
Now tell me how many of you look after your feet the same way you look after your face? Quite often our feet are over looked when it comes to care. We’ll quickly paint our toes so they look pretty in sandals and that’s about as good as it gets am I right?
If you really think about it, our feet work hard day in and day out as they are constantly carrying our weight around everywhere we go. So why not take care of them the same way we take care of our face?

Simple foot care
If you’re not one to enjoy looking at your own feet it’s still essential you are constantly checking them for cuts, sores, redness, and swelling, sometimes even bruises. It’s a good idea to get to know your own two feet so you can know what’s normal and whats not.

The right footwear
The simplest way you can care for your feet is by wearing the appropriate footwear. Do you notice how dry your heels become during summer after days of constantly wearing shoes with no protection what so ever? I’m not saying wear your Nike trainers to the beach in summer, but just be mindful of how often you are wearing sandals/slippers outside leaving your feet with no protection and maximum sun exposure.

How to look after your feet
Treating yourself to a pedicure is the ultimate act of self care both for you and your feet. Not only does it mean you don’t have to personally touch your own feet to look after them, you have a professional beauty therapist looking after/checking your feet every 4-6 weeks, while you can sit back, relax and enjoy a coffee. A pedicure should include a foot soaking, preparation of your toe nails, buffing away the calluses on your heels, an exfoliation, massage and end with some nail polish on your toe. That is what we like to call a luxury pedicure treatment.

Finding the right salon for a pedicure
Now, it is important that we talk about the type of pedicure you’re looking for. If you’re in a shopping centre and see one of those busy salons offering $20-$30 pedicures then a $20-$30 pedicure and possible fungal infection is what you’re going to get. It’s harsh but it’s a harsh reality that I’ve heard happen time and time again. It’s definitely worth doing your research and finding a place that takes pride in their services, offers clean and sterile equipment and honestly be prepared to spend a little bit more money than you would at one of those centre salons but I guarantee your feet will thank you for it later.

If you think about it you wouldn’t settle for a cheap facial that only uses cheap products because a lot of the time those products can cause breakouts, blackheads, oiliness and can do more damage than good for your skin. So don’t settle for a cheap pedicure. To wrap things up, checking your feet weekly at home will go a long way, invest in the right footwear and treat yourself to a pedicure every 4-6 weeks because our feet really deserve more effort than we give them. So, give your feet just as much attention as you’d give your face.
